Port Royal Sound Foundation has partnered with Palmetto Pride and adopted a two-mile stretch of SC-170 flanking both sides of the Lemon Island bridge. Picking up litter will keep this beautiful stretch of 170 clean and keep harmful trash from washing into the Chechessee River, causing environmental contamination and potential hazards for sea life.

Staff and volunteers will conduct the first cleanup event Saturday, January 21st, and we hope you’ll join us! Volunteers must be at least 13 years to participate. Volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult on all Adopt-A-Highway clean ups. Long pants, long-sleeved shirts and sturdy shoes help avoid scratches and irritation from poisonous plants. Light or brightly colored clothing will make you easily visible to passing traffic. Safety vests will be provided as well as gloves and litter picker-uppers.

Please call (843) 645-7774 to let us know you’re coming so we are sure to have plenty of supplies and refreshments.
