EcoBoat Tour
May 27 @ 11:00 am – 12:45 pm

Spend time aboard Spartina with Captain Amber for a scientific expedition on the beautiful Chechessee River. With little development on its banks, the Chechessee offers a largely untouched landscape with plentiful wildlife. Seasonal crabs, shrimp, and fish will make a temporary appearance on board in a touch tank.

Captain Amber grew up on these waters and has a passion for the bounty of the Lowcountry. Her graduate degree in Marine Biology allows her to explain the intricacies of the saltmarsh, setting Spartina apart from sightseeing eco-tours.

While here, plan some time to walk around the Maritime Center where you can experience dynamic exhibits, discover native sea animals, explore local history and connect with stories of the Port Royal Sound. All at no extra cost!

Pollinators of the Port Royal Sound
May 27 @ 11:00 am – 2:00 pm

This month’s Saturday on the Sound is all about bees, bats, butterflies and other buzzing friends. Did you know over 75% of the world’s crop species, including most of our fruit, nuts, and vegetables, depend on bees and other pollinators — they crucial to our food system. But many of our native species are threatened with extinction. It is vital that we protect this natural resource, and YOU can help…

Visit our new Butterfly Garden created for us by the Lowcountry Master Gardener Association…
Learn how to plant your own butterfly garden…
See beehives and bat houses in action…

All activities are free of charge.  Food will be available for purchase through vendors including Kona Ice and Simple as Pie. Pulled pork sandwiches will also be available for purchase by KC Mike’s Smokin’. In addition to their delectable desserts, Simple as Pie will be offering box lunches with varieties both kids and adults will enjoy!

Dolphin Research Cruise
Jun 3 @ 11:00 am – 1:00 pm

The Dolphin Research Cruise is a collaborative effort among Dr. Eric Montie’s Marine Sensory and Neurobiology Lab at The University of South Carolina Beaufort and Spartina Marine Education Charters. This tour is scientific, as biologists document dolphin activity, take photo ID of dorsal fins, listen to dolphin communication with a hydrophone, and explain the premise of their ongoing research involving data recorders deployed in the May River. For every ticket sold, 25% is donated to this research. Visit the links below to learn how to Adopt-a-Dolphin and to see pictures from recent trips.
