Connecting people with the waters and lands

of the Port Royal Sound area

No matter where you travel in Beaufort County and the surrounding area, you’ll likely cross the waters of Port Royal Sound. These are some of the most pristine waters in the country. We want to keep these special waters special for generations to come. We believe raising awareness and educating residents and visitors alike about our unique ecosystem is the first step.

The Maritime Center opened November 1, 2014, as a doorway to the journey of discovery. Please come inside and join us…

EXPERIENCE dynamic exhibits and the rich variety of life found in the Port Royal Sound Area. See what a 10-foot tiger shark looks like…
DISCOVER our amazing local marine life in a 3,000-gallon aquarium and the educational viewing tanks…
EXPLORE the water by boat, kayak, canoe and more…
CONNECT to the stories and rich history that make the Port Royal Sound unique…

Get up close and personal with SEA LIFE at the Port Royal Sound Foundation Maritime Center!

Did these pictures get your attention? Good! PLEASE join us tomorrow (Dec 16th) at the Maritime Center at 8:30am for our Hwy 170 (Okatie Hwy) litter pick-up. It is disgusting the amount of trash that ends up on this major road (that we ALL use) and it's a horrible way to welcome our friends and family to the Lowcountry during the holiday season. Please give us an hour or two of your time - we don't want OUR TRASH to end up in OUR Port Royal Sound! And we'll have coffee and donuts!!
